The client was Wheelspin Models – a leading model car maker and Europe’s largest model and hobby store. They needed more floor space to expand its retail and racing areas. They wanted to create an indoor model raceway where customers could test, race, and compete with remote-controlled (RC) cars.

The model car manufacturer chose a tailored mezzanine flooring solution to avoid moving costs. This choice allowed them to use their current space more efficiently. They contacted First Floors to design and install a mezzanine-level RC race track. Once completed, the project would provide the client with an all-weather racing facility at their base in Cannock.

The client faced space constraints and needed a custom mezzanine floor. This would enable them to install a modern RC raceway above their retail store and warehouse.

The new facility required:

The biggest challenge of this project was to make sure the installation didn’t disrupt the client’s retail and warehouse operations. The raceway required a safe mezzanine floor that complied with fire rating standards and building codes. However, it also had to be suitable for an intensive-use racing environment. Managing the project within a tight two-week timeline added further complexity.
